The Hunger Games Adaptation Update

The Hunger Games

The book The Hunger Games (The Hunger GamesChildren's Action & Adventure Literature)) Hollywood adaptation seems to be moving forward smoothly.

The book was originally published in September of 2008 and is the first book of The Hunger Games Trilogy (Hunger Games Trilogy BoxsetTeen Fantasy Books)). It introduces us to 16 year old Katniss Everdeen who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panern (formerly North America). The are chosen by a powerful government to compete in an annual televised even where a boy and girl are choosen to fight to the death. The Hunger Games exist to demonstrate not even children are beyond the reach of the Capitol's power.

Before casting news hit this week I hadn’t heard of these books. They’re marketed as young adult and I’m…well let’s just say NOT a young adult anymore, so that may be why I’ve missed them. They sound interesting enough that I’ll pick them up prior to the release of the film.

Casting probability is Elizabeth Banks (Zack and Miri Make a Porno [Blu-ray] Role Models [Blu-ray] The Next Three Days (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy)) as Effie Trinket (a bureaucrat who escorts her district’s contestants to their fate in the death match). She’s currently in talks for this role. Her talent would be a great addition to the cast which has confermation of the actors/roles below.

Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone [Blu-ray]) as Katniss Everdeen: The female tribute from District 12, who volunteers in place of her sister for the 74th Annual Hunger Games. She is the main character of the story.

Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right [Blu-ray]Indie & Art House Movies & TV)) as Peeta Mellark: Peeta is the second "tribute" to go into the 74th Hunger Games.

And
Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) ) as Gale Hawthorne: Gale is Katniss' best friend.
